Thought we would let you see who lived next door to us for a few weeks--Elder Doughan and Elder Asafo-Adjei. They lived next door to us for about 4 weeks--they moved out when we needed to get the apartment ready for the new senior couple, We had also opened up a new apartment for the elders. Elder Doughan and Elder Asafo-Adjei were pretty entertaining. They would knock on our apartment door when they got home in the evening to see how our day had been. They especially loved being next door on Sundays as we would invite them over for dinner. Elder Asafo-Adjei still says he misses us the most on Sundays. Elder Doughan left to return home to Ghana on June 8th.
On May 29th Joseph Koroma got baptized. His father, Mustapha, is a security guard at the mission home and at the mission office. Mustapha does not speak much English, he speaks more of Krio. Elder Jones helped him with the baptismal prayer so that he could baptize his son.

Sahr Doe is the Physical Facilities person for the country of Sierra Leone for the church. I thought you would like to see his outfit. Take note of the cool shoes. Actually Sahr is a pretty sharp dresser--this is one of his casual outfits. He served a mission in Accra, worked at the MTC in Ghana for a while, and then returned to Sierra Leone. He is a great member of the church. We enjoy our relationship with him. He likes to refer to himself as sourdoe 1. He keeps us laughing. His office is just above the mission office so we see him quite often.
We had 2 Assistants (Elder Degen and Elder Bird) that loved ice cream. It isn't quite the same as home, but it can still bring smiles to the faces of the elders. The elders will each contribute to purchase 4-liters of ice cream. They keep coming up with reasons to celebrate with ice cream.
On June 8th, we had 5 fine elders return home--one to Ghana and four to the US. Elder Yardley, Elder Albright, Elder Doughan, President and Sister Squires, Elder Degen and Elder Lauti. What a great group of elders!!!! We miss them. They had an interesting trip home. Until Monday, the 7th, they were going to fly through London. But because of the strike by British Airways flight attendants which affected their flight from Accra to London, Church transportation got them quickly changed to another flight. We were so happy that they got home without incident.

Elder Nyarko (from Ghana). He was in the mission office getting ready to leave for Bo at transfers. Elder Jones got the opportunity to drive elders going to and from Liberia, which means he left for Bo on Wednesday afternoon. He spent the night with the elders at the Kenema apartment (the elders were very happy that Sister Jones didn't come along so that they could have a sleep over with Elder Jones). He then drove to the Liberian border, back to Kenema to drop off and pick up an elder there, on to Bo to drop off two more elders and then on the Freetown with two more elders to drop off at 2 different apartments. It makes for a long couple of days.
These are the 3 new elders that arrived from the MTC on June 8th--Elder Moyo (Zimbabwe) , Elder Jenkins (Wyoming), and Elder Boateng (Ghana).
Elder and Sister Neves (Utah) arrived in Sierra Leone on June 3. They are learning their way around town very well. We all went to Bo this past weekend (June 12-13) so that they could learn how to get to Bo, get around Bo a little bit, get to the apartments in Bo, and find some of the church buildings. We attended the Bo District Conference--which is the last district conference that President Squires will preside at before he leaves at the end of this month.
We get some good young men from Sierra Leone who go out to serve in other African countries--Elder John C'Say (Nigeria Port Harcourt mission) and Elder Vivian Campbell (Nigeria Calabar mission).
Time is quickly moving forward. We will receive another senior couple in next week, so look for a picture of them in the next blog. We are so grateful for the wonderful people in our lives--here and at home. We certainly feel very blessed.
Through the lives of many of you, we have learned what it is to have faith, patience, enduring to the end, hope, and reliance upon the gift of the Atonement. Thank you for your examples to us in the service you give and the lives you are living.
