We have had the great privilege of working with the LDS Church Employment services to get trained on how they organize and work with helping people gain skills in finding employment. We were supposed to attend some of the classes offered here in Arizona so that we could help set up and organize the one that was approved in Sierra Leone. We were talking to one of the missionaries in our ward who is serving a mission there and found out that they were going to have an MTC for the new missionaries coming in for 2009. Blaine called and asked if there was any way that we could sit in on the training and explained our situation. The director was pleased to have us join with them. We attended their training on Monday through Friday (2 weeks ago).
While there at the Center on Wednesday, a lady came into the Center with 2 people who were visiting from Sierra Leone. The director came in and called Blaine out of the class and introduced him to the two individuals from Sierra Leone. They are not members of the Church, but were visiting a member whom they had become acquainted with. She was showing them some of the various Church sites around the area. It was a great experience and one that was rather amazing--what are the chances of making a connection like that. They are the first people either of us have met from Sierra Leone. They were very friendly and expressed a desire to help us if we ran into any problems when we arrived in Sierra Leone.
